MenZone

MenZone was formed in 2002 and is a fellowship group for men at St. Mary the Virgin, Monkseaton.  We normally meet once a month at 12 noon at The Whitley Bay Golf Club.

We invite speakers on various topics,  and share a buffet lunch.  Average attendance is about fifteen.  At Christmas we have a dinner and entertainment, and to which our wives/partners are invited. Occasionally we organise visits outside the parish, for example we have twice been to All Saints College, West Denton, once to the Franciscan Friary at Alnmouth, and in September 2009 we visited Boldon School, South Tyneside, for a lunch, a tour of the school, and some interaction with the students in the classroom.  For the past five years we have been away on retreat for a few days at one of the Retreat Houses in North Yorkshire, Cumbria and Northumberland, when we have a leader, and a theme for discussion groups and a time for relaxation and fellowship. Our latest weekend away was in June, when we went to our Diocesan Retreat House at Shepherd’s Dene, where our time was ably led by the Archdeacon of Northumberland, the Venerable Geoff Miller. For the last two years we have also hosted a Eucharist service for men from other churches in the area which is followed by supper.
