St. Mary's Centenary Celebrations

Our Centenary Celebrations - May 2011 to May 2012

It was in 1911 that the first buildings were erected on the Claremont Gardens site - they had previously been used as the Officers' Mess for the Northumberland Hussars - and officially opened at the end of September 1911.

At that time St Mary's was the daughter church of St Paul's, Whitley Bay and was established to serve the ever-increasing number of residents in the new housing springing up along the coastline to the north of the town centre.

Throughout September we are looking back on the first 100 years in a multi-media exhibition. The opening times are on the  poster below.

There are excting plans for a "World" Christmas Carol Service on December 18th when we will link with friends abroad to celebrate Christmas - with carols of course.

The culmination of our celebrations will be a week of music events in April 2012 of which more later.
