Work with Children and young people

All ages are welcome at St Mary’s. Young people play an active part in our church community through participation in worship, learning and social events.

Regular activities:

For the very youngest

  • Noah’s Ark – a safe space to play within the church during services

For first/primary school age and above

  • Godly Play – allows participants to hear the stories of the bible, to wonder about their meaning in their lives and to express their response through artwork. It takes place during the Sunday 10am service – children leave with the leaders during the first hymn.

For families with children age 10 and under

  • Messy Church – one week day morning during each school holiday period – see news section for details

For age 10-14

  • Youthink – just starting in March 2011 – a new group for this age group – socialising, building relationships, exploring faith

For those who like singing

  • Young Notes – any child over the age of 7 is welcome on Tuesdays from 5-6pm in the choir vestry and on Sunday mornings at 10am with the Singers group during the service

For Baptised children who are regular worshippers at St Mary’s

  • I Believe – preparation for Holy Communion course.

For young people of all ages there are opportunities to take part in services - welcoming, handing out books, helping with the collection, lighting candles, reading from the Bible, helping with our prayers and acting as a server.

Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Rainbows, Brownies and Guides all meet in the church hall and participate in various services throughout the year.
